Kindergarten team wins championship

The Sparta team won more awards than any other school district in New Jersey SPARTA — The team of Reilly K., Cooper W. and Brady K. won the NJ Kindergarten Chess Championship held recently in Lincroft. They were a small part of the 50+ Sparta Chess Team members who participated in the NJ Grade Level Championships.
There were over 350 participants in the event from across New Jersey. Not to be outdone, the Helen Morgan third grade team also won the NJ Third Grade Championship. Team members include Anthony E., Keith J., Tim F., Ryan R. and Kayla M., Anthony was among the top finishers.

The Sparta High School Varsity seniors placed second, behind Kyle R.s’ individual second place, and Bryce B.’s three wins. The varsity sophomores and freshmen both placed fourth. Kyle B. had three wins for the sophmores, and Brian D. three wins for the frosh. Eryk B. won three games in the eighth grade division, and Dillon M. won three games in the sixth grade competition. The Sparta Middle School teams placed fourth in both the sixth and seventh grade events. Kyra S.’s three victories led the Mohawk Avenue team to a fourth place finish.
