September, 2013 - SPARTA CHESS STARTS 12TH SEASON
The Sparta Chess Club began its twelfth season with initial meetings in the Sparta schools last week.... Chess offers many educational benefits to children of every ability level including critical thinking, focus, teamwork and individual responsibility.... Over the years, members have won 16 NJ Grade Level Championships, two NJ Middle School championships, and four third place finishes at National Scholastic Championships...

NATIONAL CHESS DAY

The USCF ( www.uschess.org) has announced the first National Chess Week, Oct. 6-12, overlapping with the traditional National Chess Day, this year on Oct. 12.
We celebrated on National Chess day at the Lake Mohawk Boardwalk with chess matches between our schools. The giant chess set was also enjoyed.
